I spent a lot of time watching the videos he made before buying my G5420. a huge shout-out to Jack Fossett for making some excellent videos demonstrating tone. The Coupe might have a bit more emphasis on the upper mid-range, but when I closed my eyes while watching the video, it was surprising how difficult it was to tell them apart.Īs a quick side-note. but I watched Jack Fossett's video comparing a Casino Coupe to a full-sized Casino, and they sound almost identical. I haven't played a 335-style guitar recently, so hard to know how it compares when plugged in. Volume while unplugged is close to my Gretsch 5420, despite being a smaller, slimmer guitar. Acoustically, it sounds bigger than it actually is. Of course it's a fully hollow body, which helps it resonate.

More importantly, the smaller body doesn't seem to affect the sound very much, if at all. No hint of neck dive when I'm playing with a strap and take both hands off the guitar, it stays put. It's also extremely light, and is surprisingly well balanced. While I'd probably prefer a full-sized Casino for aesthetic/proportional purposes, the Casino Coupe is amazingly comfortable to play, both standing and sitting. I'm happy to report that this was not an issue at all. so I was worried that the 339-sized body would feel and sound too small-at least in a hollowbody guitar. The size was a 'concern' because I'm used to full-sized 335-style guitars, other large archtops, and acoustics. I don't see any reason to swap them out.Īside from the pickups, there were two other things I was hesitant about when looking at the Casino Coupe: the size of the guitar and the pau ferro fretboard. I'm sure the P90's in this guitar aren't the highest quality, but since I'm still relatively unfamiliar with the P90 sounds, I don't really know the difference-and these sound plenty good enough to me. In other words, clear and articulate with some warmth or almost a compressed sound-not necessarily a bright, biting single-coil tone. As a long-time Strat player, I'm especially fond of the sound of a Strat neck pickup, and the sounds of positions 2 and 4. I play mostly clean and tend to prefer the sound of single-coils. I'm not sure why, because I really like the tone of P90's.
